Personality
Within the mind and soul
Out of the four main Meisters, Allelujah is the gentle one. He isn’t necessarily kind like Lockon (though that isn’t to say he is unkind either), nor is he similar to Tieria or Setsuna. Allelujah is the Meister who hates fighting the most and especially killing others. On his first mission involved with killing, in episode 2, Allelujah says, “With this, I’ve turned into a murderer. However… This is Celestial Being!” And he indeed pushes away his discomfort about killing by relying on Celestial Being’s goal of eliminating war.
When given a choice, Allelujah would choose to stay back and assist with maintainence rather than actively seeking out battles. This is what struct me most about Allelujah’s character. Not often will you come across a mecha pilot who really despises killing. The closest that comes to mind would be Kira Yamato of Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED. But Kira and Allelujah aren’t really similar. And even Amuro Ray from the original Kidou Senshi Gundam didn’t dislike fighting because of human death, but because he was forced into the military and exploited.
Being the way he is, Allelujah unfortunately did miss out on some of the plot turning actions that the other three Meisters involved themselves in. And less of him in action does make me sad.
As E-0057, one of the subjects of the Human Reform League’s Super Soldier project, Allelujah experienced an extreme amount of mental stress, and developed an alter ego, a second personality named Hallelujah. And Hallelujah embodies all the negative emotions possible, sparing Allelujah from further pains.
With Hallelujah aside, Allelujah remains gentle, and often a little unsure of his role. But when human lives are at stake, he will not hesitate to disobey orders and break secrets to save those lives.
Other than that, Allelujah could also be described as the shy one, producing one of my favorite scenes and comedic moments when he walked in on Lockon and Feldt in a quiet moment of bonding.
iPersonic says Allelujah is a Good-natured Realist. I actually took the personality test with him in mind, and was lucky enough to get it close on a first try. The description of the Good-natured Realist is really close to what Allelujah presents himself to be.
For one, I’ve always felt Allelujah was the modest type, even though he doesn’t actually express that trait in the episodes. His quiet form of speech, and his short but careful choice of words just make him to be the type that is modest. That also leads to reserved, for Allelujah does show signs of keeping business to himself. This in itself isn’t saying much, because other than Lockon Stratos, the other Meisters are reserved as well. But Allelujah’s reason for reservation is different. Where as Setsuna F Seiei is reserved because he does not see any reason to share information, and Tieria Erde is reserved because he really doesn’t know how not to be, Allelujah seems to be reserved because he doesn’t want to trouble others with his own troubles.
As for another trait, altruistic is also fitting, considering Allelujah was the one who disobeyed orders and messed up the mission by choosing to save the civilians that were trapped and surely heading for misfortune. Sure, his main reason was because he knew first hand what it was like to be trapped and waiting for death, but all the same, he saved those people for the sake of saving them.
But my favorite word to describe Allelujah from the list might just be practical. Since I believe by all means he is practical. Whenever danger is certain, Allelujah is the one who raises voice about the concerns and unfortunately is shot down and made to look slightly coward-like. I really like how he does worry for the safety of his fellow Meisters and voices them despite sounding rather weak.
Allelujah, you can worry over me anyday.
