Kidou Senshi Gundam 00
Elimination of war through armed intervention
Being the Gundam fan that I am, as well as a mecha geek in general, I was excited when I heard Sunrise was making a new Gundam series. I was further awed by the fact one of my favorite mangaka would be doing the character designs.
Gundam 00 is definitely not the typical gundam story. Sunrise took a safe route with Gundam SEED, folowing in the same formula as Zeta Gundam as well as elements of the original Gundam. But with Double-O, Sunrise choose to hire a director who had never touched Gundam, and made this series as original as Gundam can ever get (at least for now).
The idea of four main pilots feels similar to Gundam Wing, as well as the secrecy behind the organization that lead them, but that’s where it stops. There are no space colonies fighting for their independence, or any independent space colonies at all (at least not like in Wing), for that matter. It’s all Earth vs. Earth.
As the year is 2307 AD, it is 300 years from now (at the time Double-O aired). Mankind has yet to unify as one. Conflicts are still present and pride and hate run deep in the blood of people. It is obvious this series takes into account the current state of our world. With terrorism highly feared and the supply of oil running fast, Gundam 00 gives us a possible future. Will we finally succeed in fully utilizing solar energy and finally let go of our dependence on oil? And how long will the ideology of terrorism hold?
From the moment Celestial Being presents itself to the world stage, Allelujah as well as his fellow Meisters are shown to have fully assimilated the doctrine of Celestial Being and its founder, Aeolia Schenberg. Each member joined Celestial Being under different reasons, but they mostly keep those to themselves, as their data and real identities are kept classified secrets.
